(I am reporting on events in a very untimely manner!) The projects this time were what we called "petite projects" and consisted of a Cushion, some journal covers, and pencil cases. I'd love to post photos, but can't find them! Bah!<br />
<br />
As usual the highlight of the retreat was the show and tell session on Sunday. I absolutely love this part of the retreats, it is so inspiring to see what all of our talented ladies are capable of. So without further ado, here are their marvelous creations. Sit back and enjoy the show.<br />
<br />
The following few photos are of this beauty created by Yvonne. It is a memory quilt that Yvonne made for her grand-daughter from photographs she took on a recent European holiday. She mitred stripey frames around all of the photos and then sashed them with Eiffel Tower and French script fabric. It was truly magnificent and the best memory quilt I had ever seen. <br />

Next up we have this lovely quilt made by Pam. It is made from one layer cake using the Missouri Star Quilt Company tutorial called the Double Slice Layer cake. You can find it <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxC-0T5lXw4" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />

This is a lovely Jacob's Ladder Quilt made by MaryAnne from a kit that her son bought her. It is so fresh. <br />

<br />
This gorgeous quilt was made by Bridget. Last year in July we held a retreat at Port Elliot and the project was the curved log cabin. This was one of the many setting options available and it turned out beautifully.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This is Bridget again with a quilt made from a pattern that we taught at our Mannum retreat last November. The pattern is called 1901 and it was featured in Homespun a couple of years ago. The fabric Bridget used is Happy Go Lucky by Bonnie and Camille. Again, it is so fresh and lovely. If you like the pattern, you can purchase it here. <br />

<br />
To be honest, I can't remember who's bed runner this is. It is Jan holding it, but I don't think it was her creation. It is lovely though, I really like the fabric collage hearts. <br />
<br />

<br />
This is Tina with her creation. She was using the scraps from this to make her house cushion from the retreat, which was just lovely, as you will see in my next post.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Speaking of Tina - just between you and me, she is very talented. This is a little something that she's working on and she just made the whole thing up. She started out with the Dresden in the middle and then in a one woman round robin has just been building and building on that. As you can see, it is going to be pretty magnificent! <br />

<br />
So where have I been? Last year I went back to uni to complete a post-graduate qualification in teaching. To say that it was a grueling, unforgiving year would be an understatement, but I am back now and ready to re-enter the sewing room and fluff around with fabric!<br />
<br />
Thank you to everyone who emailed me last year to check that I was ok - it meant a lot to me.<br />

<br />
During the year I had many requests for my Jewel Box pattern. So here it is. As usual it is free to download and is fully supported by my husband's fantastic CAD diagrams. I have named the pattern 'Sparkle' and you can access it by clicking <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5shkCRirc5SR1ZLdHozTEJicVk/edit?usp=sharing" target="_blank">here</a>, or by clicking on the photo of the quilt on the right of the screen. I hope you enjoy it!<br />

<br />
<br />
Over the coming weeks I will be adding a few more patterns for free download. These will mostly be patterns that I have had published in magazines over the past couple of years, so keep an eye out for them.<br />
<br />
I promise it won't be so long between posts next time! I even have some sewing to share with you.<br />
<br />
Until next time,<br />

<br />
Happy New Year everyone!<br />
<br />
We have been enjoying renovation hell here at England Street, so I don't have much to report from the sewing room. Over the 4 weeks leading up to Christmas we replaced our laundry, kitchen and the floors in our hallways and main living area. I will post some before and after photos once they have been entirely finished (just for you Kris!) At the moment we still need to replace some lighting, put the skirting boards back on and paint. Then phase 1 will be over and we will be girding the loins for phase 2 in March. <br />
<br />
On a different note, I thought I'd share what my daughter has been up to. I was indoctrinated at an early age into the world of craft and have carried on the tradition with Scarlett. The beauty of the Pfaff is that you don't need to use a foot control, so we just dialed the sewing speed down to low and the littlest crafter was able to control everything with her pointy little finger. <br />
<br />

<br />
So without further ado, I give you Scarlett's first creation - a
four-patch doll's quilt, pinned, pressed and quilted by me but sewn by
her.<br />

I decided to attempt some free hand quilting on Mum's longarm - I'm not much of a quilter I tell you! I hadn't really touched the machine for 5 years and to say that I'm a bit rusty would be a gross understatement. I pulled some pretty serious concentration faces while doing this and I'm fairly sure that my tongue was hanging out for most of the 20 minutes it took! <br />

It's been nearly a month since I posted anything and really, despite my big talk about finishing off projects by November 20th, not much has been acheived here in the sewing room.<br />
<br />
We are about to start major renovations Chez Stanyer and so the last month has seen me and my boy wonder side kick (son, not husband) trawl every tile supplier in Adelaide trying to find the perfect splashback tile for our new kitchen. Really I blame Pinterest and Houzz for my obsessive search - they have set the bar very high and as most of the pictures of kitchens I have fallen in love with are from America, I can't find exactly what I want here in Australia. But I am happy to report that my First World problem has been solved and everything is in place for the chaos of home renovations to begin from mid-December (Christmas is a great time to schedule renos, right?). Ethan has been a little trouper visiting kitchen showrooms, Harvey Norman, plumbing suppliers, floor showrooms and curtain makers. A more organised mother would have packed toys to keep him amused on our quest but instead I gave him paint chips and laminate samples to play with and we had a deal that he had free reign in the kitchen showrooms. We probably weren't too popular there but really, if your doors can't handle a toddler opening and shutting them repeatedly then is your work up to scratch?<br />
<br />
The kids and I went to our shack with my dad a couple of weeks ago and I
finished the blocks for my On A Whim quilt there while Ethan was napping and Scarlett was
fishing with her Poppy - can that girl wield a pink rod!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSMnU1XqqpooQOZbP2Dm683TqWNuvtYauwbTKn7SzPXLC6AgcRlormxY8vqSzPRYyWVkOHlstjV8gdzkSzaNicKnuBxD8e6DF9hA8tU4dlamt85QnC7CCyJfjzHvrqJI4ajwOQn0SWbQo/s1600/IMG_9651.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSMnU1XqqpooQOZbP2Dm683TqWNuvtYauwbTKn7SzPXLC6AgcRlormxY8vqSzPRYyWVkOHlstjV8gdzkSzaNicKnuBxD8e6DF9hA8tU4dlamt85QnC7CCyJfjzHvrqJI4ajwOQn0SWbQo/s400/IMG_9651.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Back to On A Whim, I really like this quilt, I think it looks gorgeous and the pattern was great. But if I were to make it again, I would do it one block at a time and really enjoy the fruits of my labour. With this quilt I went all Henry Ford and chain-pieced like a maniac, and production lining those squares in a square and then trimming them all back was so boring!<br />
<br />
Over the last few days I transformed the blocks into a quilt top. Here it is dangling from my clothesline, the quilt is a whopper, even with my clothesline wound up to the super tall setting and spun around to the slopey side of the yard it was still dangling on the grass.<br />

<br />
The light wasn't the best this afternoon when I took these photos, but we'll just pretend that the dappled light is arty. I am going to piece a backing from some left overs and make a nice label because this quilt is for someone very special but shhhh, it's a surprise. Here are some close ups of my favourite blocks. <br />
<br />

<br />
Now that this is done and all the house decisions have been made I feel like a weight has been lifted and I can't wait to get stuck into some Christmas craft because, good gravy, I love Christmas!<br />

<br />
On a side note, today the kids and I spent the afternoon swimming at my dad's. Now I have curly hair and chlorine isn't a friend to the curls. When I was photographing the quilt this evening I noticed that my shadow was casting a freaky silhouette on the quilt and when I got inside I looked in the mirror and saw that I had mascara streaked all over my face. <br />

And I kind of looked like a blonde version of the old Liz Lemon here. It wasn't pretty.<br />

I'm going to head on over there now and check out what everyone else has been creating while I've been wrestling with paint charts. Have a great week everyone, hopefully I'll see you again in a few days. The pace has been somewhat leisurely but progress has been made. This week my mantra has been "just keep swimming" a la Dory from Finding Nemo.<br />
<br />
I have been working on my On A Whim blocks in Vintage Modern. I constructed all of the components of the blocks in a chain piecing frenzy and just needed to square them up. Even with a new blade in my rotary cutter, as I mentioned in last weeks post, it has been boring work. So to break the monotony I decided to square up enough to allow me to complete two blocks at a time so it's been a little bit of slicing and a bit of sewing and that has been much more satisfying.<br />
<br />

<br />
I have been pinning everything as I go in order to ease in the set in squares of the Rolling Star block because, not for love nor money could I get these babies square! No matter what I did they were 5.5 on one side and 5.75 on the other. Enter Clover pins and the magical potion that is Mary Ellen's Best Press and I made them bend to my iron will and here they are all straight and square and hanging on my clothes line looking pretty.<br />

Mum quilted it for me using the <a href="http://www.digitalquiltingpatterns.com/store/catalogsearch/result/?q=simplicity&x=0&y=0" target="_blank">Simplicity</a> pantograph by Lorien Quilting. This pattern is perfect for going over applique or stitcheries; it stitches out quickly and is unobtrusive.<br />

<br />
I did a simple pieced backing, mainly because there wasn't quite enough width in a standard piece of Moda Bella Solid to go on the longarm. Fortunately I had some Bliss by Bonnie and Camille left over from <a href="http://englandstreet.blogspot.com.au/2012/10/bloggers-quilt-festival-jewel-box-quilt.html" target="_blank">this</a> quilt and it blended in beautifully with the colours in Marmalade.<br />

There was a small drama with this quilt.....I had left in on my lounge suite where I was sitting binding it and this evil genius (don't be fooled by his angelic face)....<br />

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I stayed calm though and continued with
the binding and this afternoon I hit it with the triple threat of Preen,
Omo and Sard Wondersoap. I am happy to report the texta is gone and
the quilt is happily drying outside.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
So, onward and upward....this week I hope to get more On A Whim blocks finished and to quilt the little tumbler top for Ethan's cushion (not that he deserves soft furnishings after the texta incident) and maybe get a border or two on a quilt.<br />
<br />
As usual I am linking up with Lee at Freshly Pieced. Click below to head over and see what everyone else has been up to.<br />

Well - this has caught me on the hop! I had no idea that the Blogger's

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It has no special story really, it's just a quilt I made when I set myself a challenge to see what I could make from a Jelly Roll and a Layer Cake. In the end I came to realise that one Jelly Roll and one Layer cake go a long way! I made this quilt, plus another that will be published in Homespun next year, a table runner for my daughter and then I gave the leftovers to a friend and she whipped up a quilt for her grand-daughter. It felt like the neverending supply of Bliss fabric!</div>

2012 is skidding at an alarming speed towards its close, and although I am pretty keen to get cracking on some Christmas craft, I have had a stern talk to myself about finishing off some projects before I begin any new ones. Had this talk with yourself before? So here I am linking up with Lee at <a href="http://www.freshlypieced.blogspot.com.au/2012/10/wip-wednesday-going-minimalist.html" target="_blank">Freshly Pieced</a> for a Wednesday WIP confessional. The following projects (plus many more, I'm afraid to say) are lurking in this cupboard..... <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZkiDax2pbwBGHC3-jC5Zw_mZTEnfZOGqCbP0qoZNsLgH86akj1cngaIGnRYN1BoW_Zlh3anwfKBrbw8Jd27kM_5gVTfYILMXvjMrqMhzEmao_MwbHsryKkpgJaDKThFIwKBUZO5ogPNk/s1600/IMG_8117.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZkiDax2pbwBGHC3-jC5Zw_mZTEnfZOGqCbP0qoZNsLgH86akj1cngaIGnRYN1BoW_Zlh3anwfKBrbw8Jd27kM_5gVTfYILMXvjMrqMhzEmao_MwbHsryKkpgJaDKThFIwKBUZO5ogPNk/s400/IMG_8117.JPG" width="266" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And I am giving myself until the 20th of November to finish them off and then I will be able to enjoy my festive season guilt free. So I am declaring my hand people and by the aforementioned date I will have finished......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Putting the borders on this quilt-top. The photo just shows it laid out in blocks, but I have sewn it together now and have managed, through the power of Google, to track down and purchase some border fabric for it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmShyID_Cvj9cpkdDTbtal9CsFlbA4ak-1oVoviE76xB0VRW8HAAqQojHPUpgCzI0KuPQd_2InzLKufNwkzpJ-uEiM4UfNs2CoMiNKEw_ppO6u6tfQRRFmDjiOu_EM1w0j8a9YszHYeq8/s1600/IMG_7440.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmShyID_Cvj9cpkdDTbtal9CsFlbA4ak-1oVoviE76xB0VRW8HAAqQojHPUpgCzI0KuPQd_2InzLKufNwkzpJ-uEiM4UfNs2CoMiNKEw_ppO6u6tfQRRFmDjiOu_EM1w0j8a9YszHYeq8/s400/IMG_7440.JPG" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Making my On A Whim quilt top. I have pieced all of the components of the blocks and am in the process of squaring them up which I am finding totally tedious. I have completed two blocks- this one, and other that I have misplaced - things aren't looking good for that deadline! Fortunately, I have enough fabric to whip up another block if it doesn't turn up. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<br />
<br />
Putting the borders on my Dad's Carpenter's Star quilt. You can see the quilt <a href="http://englandstreet.blogspot.com.au/2010/02/more-flowers-from-my-attic.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx04i9mS5msz5fXdz3AGLsrlVu6S9OhSy_j6LNbe4JTW-bAxg-K_TX3dxFSLQQRKRlzCVS7MAlWwUhZINIh6HDC0k19GTpNXN0VgO9T7i2BHTIwJVghyphenhyphen3kzvYgqUqbuLQVt-6Kf_aOzhA/s1600/IMG_7498x.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx04i9mS5msz5fXdz3AGLsrlVu6S9OhSy_j6LNbe4JTW-bAxg-K_TX3dxFSLQQRKRlzCVS7MAlWwUhZINIh6HDC0k19GTpNXN0VgO9T7i2BHTIwJVghyphenhyphen3kzvYgqUqbuLQVt-6Kf_aOzhA/s400/IMG_7498x.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I would also like to finish my Crystal star quilt that I have designed using a layer cake in Petite Odile by French General. (This list is starting to seem a bit ambitious) <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigbn5_5lFu7b4b-QsQtghXGtnh_oVtMttHKbgzKI4pu7JOPi-4nlFG8lSTnNhWzs1_OnH1Rfn-3KFDkUxkF-pZ8ILYeVGEDrAmMaWhV0a0Qo87Im1GPmvVmRVPXs3sseHMWtMfhvNbluE/s1600/IMG_7812.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigbn5_5lFu7b4b-QsQtghXGtnh_oVtMttHKbgzKI4pu7JOPi-4nlFG8lSTnNhWzs1_OnH1Rfn-3KFDkUxkF-pZ8ILYeVGEDrAmMaWhV0a0Qo87Im1GPmvVmRVPXs3sseHMWtMfhvNbluE/s400/IMG_7812.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The list also includes finishing up Scarlett's string quilt..... <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizhiDCflyVmYdWSo-xmi-sZ4pyvdoE6UUr4fq28wWOyOveo8UqlXFfKx8V4YbU3AfRNw2NV45u-mHt3yZO9SRSvMqh5STi0Hzi_uNRFs51HK-0RUY7SFJfgZkRyVW-wnDrx9nV6Ah8Ul0/s1600/IMG_7815.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizhiDCflyVmYdWSo-xmi-sZ4pyvdoE6UUr4fq28wWOyOveo8UqlXFfKx8V4YbU3AfRNw2NV45u-mHt3yZO9SRSvMqh5STi0Hzi_uNRFs51HK-0RUY7SFJfgZkRyVW-wnDrx9nV6Ah8Ul0/s400/IMG_7815.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This little one has been quilted and I am currently stitching the binding down, so I may even have a wee finish by Friday. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVWEOSjW0QWH3_76uoqcqQrA0EGuhdGqz04SBOh66g0JIXiMKweytxwWaa2gCYcqe8TfwICGpQFfsySKckNZZt2nD5buwKBQj7fmC1DfPpdmuePCHs0JPEGsE-jSX_e4a1FRABIofSMqk/s1600/IMG_9254.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVWEOSjW0QWH3_76uoqcqQrA0EGuhdGqz04SBOh66g0JIXiMKweytxwWaa2gCYcqe8TfwICGpQFfsySKckNZZt2nD5buwKBQj7fmC1DfPpdmuePCHs0JPEGsE-jSX_e4a1FRABIofSMqk/s400/IMG_9254.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
And last but not least is this little tumbling block that I am going to quilt with some straight lines and turn into a cushion for my son's room. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Not a very exciting fortnight either - all I have been doing it is cleaning out cupboards and ruthlessly culling the contents of my house. But that aside, I have managed to achieve a finish and I have written another free pattern for you - I finally finished stitching the binding on my Summer in the Park quilt which I have renamed Summer at the Beach.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqooVmVraZgputt90XHqB9ojKvzTulIuCeouqWqjwwfozZM9A12sLsfWcNOwSP0W6XxblIXOVKhPPeNC_1JWQz_z1MSq_hFSCFwgODAwpPIdDBHbEAyoXRp2aruq53JLQJz8agyuYRVwg/s1600/IMG_9518.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqooVmVraZgputt90XHqB9ojKvzTulIuCeouqWqjwwfozZM9A12sLsfWcNOwSP0W6XxblIXOVKhPPeNC_1JWQz_z1MSq_hFSCFwgODAwpPIdDBHbEAyoXRp2aruq53JLQJz8agyuYRVwg/s400/IMG_9518.JPG" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I put the last stitches in the binding on Wednesday night and Thursday
after kindy we trotted down to Semaphore to photograph the quilt hanging
over the jetty (this was really an elaborate ruse for me to get my
hands on an ice-cream from my favourite ice-cream parlour on Semaphore
Road - but that's just between us). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here it is hanging over Semaphore jetty with the Palais in the background. I really loved making this quilt - you just sew strips together like a demon and and then with some clever cutting you make blocks and in no time you have a quilt top sewn together!</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This quilt was inspired by the Summer in the Park video tutorial by the Missouri Star Quilt Company. But as with <a href="http://englandstreet.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/briar-rose-finish-and-free-jelly-roll.html" target="_blank">Briar Rose</a> I didn't want to just start sewing and not know how much fabric I would need or how big a quilt I would get out of one jelly roll, so I have written a pattern for it. The pattern
is again fully supported by CAD diagrams and detailed instructions and
you can download it from Google Docs by clicking <span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: #741b47;"><b><a href="https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B5shkCRirc5Sa000b3laT1BRMGc" target="_blank">here</a></b></span></span> or by clicking on the photograph on the right hand side bar. <br />

<br />
Mum quilted it for me using the Bountiful Feathers pantograph by Lorien Quilting. It really suited the feather or wave print in the Salt Air fabrics. <br />

Well, last weekend was AMQF and I really can't tell you when I have
been so busy. Luckily for me all of that out-of-control business was
offset by the fact that I spent two nights at the Intercontinental in
Adelaide with two of my favourite peeps... here they are, my cousins,
Sarah and Ben. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ71tm5JhzNi4HvudffbR6WxYeKUEJIMY_YiOX5CFy03PI1u56UVS7WK0VrYf_U0DRUrb7Li1QaEGZfzGDSP6wkn5mc18HGAGo7ST8g0seqhMsGRsF4VORIJ5vc6t8w8DT7PinhyphenhyphenKp1CI/s1600/IMG_9364.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ71tm5JhzNi4HvudffbR6WxYeKUEJIMY_YiOX5CFy03PI1u56UVS7WK0VrYf_U0DRUrb7Li1QaEGZfzGDSP6wkn5mc18HGAGo7ST8g0seqhMsGRsF4VORIJ5vc6t8w8DT7PinhyphenhyphenKp1CI/s400/IMG_9364.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Ben Kempster was the MC for the weekend and he did an
absolutely outstanding job! He was also the auctioneer for the
Alzheimer's Benefit charity quilt and he had those punters eating out of
his hands and throwing their cash around willy nilly. We raised nearly
four grand for Alzheimer's SA.<br />
<br />
As happens when you
are busy, you forget to take photos of everything. But don't worry - I
didn't forget the good stuff. Here is some eye candy from the quilt
show.... enjoy.<br />

Ok, off to bed now, so tired it hurts to blink and I have to be up in 5 and a half hours to get the kids off to their Nana's so I can go to see Ricky. There is a moderate chance that I may slip into a quiet coma during the day - I hope Ricky won't be offended.Shontellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02628498735665684509noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6252273315313190335.post-84455982476172489622012-09-24T19:59:00.003+09:302012-09-26T19:53:15.132+09:30APQ - TipperaryToday when I got home from work I had a large parcel waiting for me. <br />
I had sent it off to Australian Patchwork and Quilting and today they sent it back to me along with a copy of the magazine in which it features. It was all a bit thrilling for a Monday afternoon. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The edition my quilt is in is Vol 21 No 11 and should be in newsagents this week. I called the quilt Tipperary because I had started out working a design around the Road to Dublin block but I chopped and changed a few things and then altered the way the block went together to come up with a different design entirely. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And I always loved the song <i>Long Way to Tipperary</i>. When my
Grandma was living in a nursing home, after she developed dementia, my
Nana and I were visiting her one day and Grandma started singing <i>Tipperary</i> from start to finish. It is a special memory for me<br />

Thank you so much to Elaine and everyone at Australian Patchwork and Quilting for the opportunity to have my work published in such an esteemed magazine. I am off to celebrate with a block of Lindt Orange Intense.<br />

As usual I am linking up with Lee at Freshly Pieced....<br />

One of which will be the myriad things you can do with HSTs. Today I have been working on some sample blocks and here they are dangling from my clothesline....<br />
<br />
This is a Carpenter's Wheel that I've made with the scraps from <a href="http://englandstreet.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/double-hourglass-quilt-tutorial.html" target="_blank">this</a> quilt....<br />

<br />
Some kind of HST block made from the scraps of <a href="http://englandstreet.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/salt-air-summer-in-park-quilt.html" target="_blank">this</a> quilt.... Does anyone know if this block has a name? <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I am going to turn them into cushions. I was hoping to have that done before Festival, but the probability of that happening is dwindling every day.... <br />
<br />

This little scrappy number was made with my 22.5 degree dresden ruler to create tumbler blocks. I am also going to turn it into a cushion for my son's room. The likelihood of this happening is slightly higher. Very slightly... <br />

<br />
This post is going to be big on photos, low on written content. I have retyped the opening sentence about six times and I just can't get my brain to work, I need me some sleep. To cut to the chase - next week at the <a href="http://www.amqfestival.com.au/" target="_blank">Australian Machine Quilting Festival</a>, Mum's booth is going to be the home to the Accuquilt Go! Baby and it was my job to make a sample. A while ago I had pinned <a href="https://pinterest.com/pin/98305204337177997/" target="_blank">this</a> quilt and this week I made it using the Go! Baby Critters cutter. I loved the original quilt so much that I even used the same fabric, Marmalade by Bonne and Camille - they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHezqaDWelUGivuthZ_peN3hFU-zBAV-m-2D-V2xvpeW9IJVkOAP7BKKvqs5bBbr3J6qAqBXdbRy-zcn9vZQbT2ihqj5hlrsKyXur4FlA9DcjIz-OgTZiVVeMXvGOCbZtTxnIhSo0RL9w/s1600/IMG_9225.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHezqaDWelUGivuthZ_peN3hFU-zBAV-m-2D-V2xvpeW9IJVkOAP7BKKvqs5bBbr3J6qAqBXdbRy-zcn9vZQbT2ihqj5hlrsKyXur4FlA9DcjIz-OgTZiVVeMXvGOCbZtTxnIhSo0RL9w/s400/IMG_9225.JPG" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I cut out and pressed 5" squares of visolene to the back of a charm pack, then took them for a spin through the Go! Baby.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzD3bUefq8dZLBTLMwQwUQ5OVHTOOotmc9CcmzzBcrC9-tZ-bJ2OkCI60tYFm_0KGmjGElhAoK5wOhxUZJJTov9UbdviXRkvvTTatwOaTyETvRLNRuBoyEmVsQgJoo-e-XCT71MIe2DFA/s1600/IMG_9230.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzD3bUefq8dZLBTLMwQwUQ5OVHTOOotmc9CcmzzBcrC9-tZ-bJ2OkCI60tYFm_0KGmjGElhAoK5wOhxUZJJTov9UbdviXRkvvTTatwOaTyETvRLNRuBoyEmVsQgJoo-e-XCT71MIe2DFA/s400/IMG_9230.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
Look how cute it is!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjns0_KUABODqeXoIpbuhPB9Q8L_l6UrTmMN1_triqZ9I88FsQfzTu49IYLZeNdKIHWhNUgPdtzRbg1817c8Bt7K46HG5Rr8PkFswWbyMzmVmPNZKOBw3vPpAzvj1kIOa70Omxkdwwjtp8/s1600/IMG_9234.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjns0_KUABODqeXoIpbuhPB9Q8L_l6UrTmMN1_triqZ9I88FsQfzTu49IYLZeNdKIHWhNUgPdtzRbg1817c8Bt7K46HG5Rr8PkFswWbyMzmVmPNZKOBw3vPpAzvj1kIOa70Omxkdwwjtp8/s400/IMG_9234.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
Pretty soon I had done the lot. I used all 42 charm squares from the Marmalade charm pack... <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_ig7wfyoJk5bMU8P1ZVjL4lV_FcpXXylz90BI2wiXScdlHbgjmRceeVpd8W3bkbV03NtEphexNy2f4D2hjJuYuIZ-QO9u7uDp5H49heGFHKt_rwNOTghZDQyhq5oKxlyIiiSOFLE5frw/s1600/IMG_9235.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_ig7wfyoJk5bMU8P1ZVjL4lV_FcpXXylz90BI2wiXScdlHbgjmRceeVpd8W3bkbV03NtEphexNy2f4D2hjJuYuIZ-QO9u7uDp5H49heGFHKt_rwNOTghZDQyhq5oKxlyIiiSOFLE5frw/s400/IMG_9235.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Here they are all laid out. It took me a while to work out how I was going to attach them without marking the background fabric. I was afraid that by ironing the pen marks I would make them permanent. So in the end I cut a piece of fabric 44" x 50" and ironed a crease of 4" around the edges to create a border and to give me something to line my ruler up with.... <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdavrXJcDTyCiWrMw1vJ6UaRhXwPPnJYYRfDjyBnX3uVPMo82pxY-NG_zJmrQbzRrwA7i3iU5ADsKxT0AgnJYA2MpZVxlv9yEAE_eHu1pEaGgyRetS_2TpPVAEgJCTgcjLWSkREAum4XQ/s1600/IMG_9238.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdavrXJcDTyCiWrMw1vJ6UaRhXwPPnJYYRfDjyBnX3uVPMo82pxY-NG_zJmrQbzRrwA7i3iU5ADsKxT0AgnJYA2MpZVxlv9yEAE_eHu1pEaGgyRetS_2TpPVAEgJCTgcjLWSkREAum4XQ/s400/IMG_9238.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I then lined my ruler up with the creases and working on a 6" grid placed and ironed my butterflies down. As you can see by the end I had a ridiculous set up with rulers on my ironing board but somehow it worked. I could only see a small section of the butterflies at any one time and was worried that by the end of it the line of them would be curved up like my handwriting does when I write on a blank page.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvgimRdyomuN1lyjEc683Yf-1Mg5xKrhJYigaLDbBkEEdf5coKuZwO50C6YL9RTtKh8p36Pjc87m54ZxCUG0Xfgn9_c8sHzaifKZ8Tv2bwV_zij4fY0OaDCTj8um3VI3CHwLHZjQwuf_4/s1600/IMG_9243.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvgimRdyomuN1lyjEc683Yf-1Mg5xKrhJYigaLDbBkEEdf5coKuZwO50C6YL9RTtKh8p36Pjc87m54ZxCUG0Xfgn9_c8sHzaifKZ8Tv2bwV_zij4fY0OaDCTj8um3VI3CHwLHZjQwuf_4/s400/IMG_9243.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
I then secured them with some very basic raw edge applique. I started off doing a blanket stitch which looked gorgeous but it was taking too long and this baby needed to be finished in two days. So I decided that raw edge was more funky and it only took a couple of minutes per butterfly, which clinched the deal! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiodcF3tQqqGN4IgEiCHqWD56SJxLZm9Kr1zwCURPj2l0kJ1x2i1sM9VcqKhai1I9GO1rmOw-C364voQcNDnTRTW8TPbhN4WQxhQDOh1iLwxI4R5NFgghZdp-t-gsi43Ofla1pmAN3_2rw/s1600/IMG_9246.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiodcF3tQqqGN4IgEiCHqWD56SJxLZm9Kr1zwCURPj2l0kJ1x2i1sM9VcqKhai1I9GO1rmOw-C364voQcNDnTRTW8TPbhN4WQxhQDOh1iLwxI4R5NFgghZdp-t-gsi43Ofla1pmAN3_2rw/s400/IMG_9246.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
And here it is hanging over the bar of my mum's longarm machine waiting patiently to be quilted. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSE_u_Y5sKc04Zpt91QVzXLF5aiGisy3pZS2fGvm-afkfjU0y8PuDoInhxMjKL1128xF_jAohgYhbj93TpNA72oP9Ox4YrsYjU5S5MTfsM1uUrcZ9doLhczggGo8i4eb4apQob5OSeU-E/s1600/IMG_9254.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSE_u_Y5sKc04Zpt91QVzXLF5aiGisy3pZS2fGvm-afkfjU0y8PuDoInhxMjKL1128xF_jAohgYhbj93TpNA72oP9Ox4YrsYjU5S5MTfsM1uUrcZ9doLhczggGo8i4eb4apQob5OSeU-E/s400/IMG_9254.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With any luck I'll be back in a few days to show you the finished product. I would have liked to custom quilt it like the original pin, but time is of the essence so it is going to get pantoed. Is that even a word? Bedtime I think!</div>

What I probably haven't mentioned before is that she is Sharon Parkinson, one of the convenors of the <a href="http://www.amqfestival.com.au/" target="_blank">Australian Machine Quilting Festival</a>. The festival kicks off in less than two weeks and behind the scenes it is go time! This weekend Mum, me and a handful of our friends got together to prepare the registration bags for all of the Festival attendees.<br />
<br />
Here is a close up of the bag that those who have registered for classes at the festival will receive. It is a lovely laptop bag which is embossed with our sponsors names - the front of the bag is a lovely green and purple with the AMQF logo.<br />

After the bags were stuffed it was on to phase two of Festival preparation for me....I went home and over the course of the weekend (and about 32 cups of tea) cut up and folded hundreds of metres of fabric for Mum's booth.....<br />

I still have about 6 bolts of fabric to cut up but am now too knackered to pick up a rotary cutter. It's a sad state of affairs, but as Scarlett O'Hara says....tomorrow is another day.<br />

So I don't have much to show you except for an extreme close up of the binding and a bit of Mum's quilting. I chose Baptist Fan's for the quilting pattern because I lurve them, unfortunately Mum hates doing them so I don't think I'll be getting them done again any time soon. I am hoping that in time she forgets the pain they cause her because I would like to make this quilt again and want it quilted exactly the same. I may have to rub her feet but it's a price I'm willing to pay!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYcZ0dBJXExET7NIq9BTtpQRuUKokUUGv7eklu1zQyz0ijMzWgUNCttXa8OKpay8E52OKv_uhvXVS6AHUJTlNp-oGvnNyqZfs1ApkcId7cFEkiRaTg5yB6fbDsctYb9nbZtlKnDOhyphenhyphenJMY/s1600/IMG_9201.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYcZ0dBJXExET7NIq9BTtpQRuUKokUUGv7eklu1zQyz0ijMzWgUNCttXa8OKpay8E52OKv_uhvXVS6AHUJTlNp-oGvnNyqZfs1ApkcId7cFEkiRaTg5yB6fbDsctYb9nbZtlKnDOhyphenhyphenJMY/s640/IMG_9201.JPG" width="425" /></a></div>
<br />
I laid the quilt out on my bed to fold it ready to send off to Sydney and the Liz took her opportunity to rub herself all over it. How is the evil look she's giving me? She knows I'm about to pull the rug out from under her. Literally. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here is our day in picmonkey collages....<br />
<br />
Our day started off with fondling some cute animals in the Learning Centre.... <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdRqw_MIsmjyWt2ZE6_wZ4Wc8tiS0OaTAGp8irvNU52H_9gGX1gn3hy4Uqsl1JWXXU-0d0wmtJauz6VSu7qKfsbis5fipWjlP7_FwoMXApn3M__qBX3-T1eVk9gAZl4bYvBTBhWJy9Rr4/s1600/Show+Collage+6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdRqw_MIsmjyWt2ZE6_wZ4Wc8tiS0OaTAGp8irvNU52H_9gGX1gn3hy4Uqsl1JWXXU-0d0wmtJauz6VSu7qKfsbis5fipWjlP7_FwoMXApn3M__qBX3-T1eVk9gAZl4bYvBTBhWJy9Rr4/s400/Show+Collage+6.jpg" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And we followed that up with some pig diving (as you do on a Sunday)...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then it was off to enjoy some fairground attractions....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My husband then came in to pick up the kids so Mum and I could nanna-up and enjoy the crafts and cooking displays in the Goyder pavillion without any whinging.... </div>
<br />
These magnificent floral displays were by David Ruston.... <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is a sample of some of the winning quilts.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIFXKbF-vztpFQgBG3AnNKyT9CKiypVCQi2tDO_2up-X5Tj3IaXu18l9ras1T4qQlKfzPHG4ufJ8q8CNzenBFLh7DRkKvba2tEqYmY1lshGWb9RF4-LN9r8K0r0ETTWKzNjBOHmIV70Q8/s1600/Show++Collage+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIFXKbF-vztpFQgBG3AnNKyT9CKiypVCQi2tDO_2up-X5Tj3IaXu18l9ras1T4qQlKfzPHG4ufJ8q8CNzenBFLh7DRkKvba2tEqYmY1lshGWb9RF4-LN9r8K0r0ETTWKzNjBOHmIV70Q8/s640/Show++Collage+5.jpg" width="448" /></a></div>
And of course no Australian show would be complete without some prize winning pumpkin scones, some lamingtons and a jam roll.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEzGbR5UnOM7cPKVgvJAFgTlWpC5BImaKE_DyEV768GpOL0FSL9qOwaa7opihQgqN45j7oddBmZI-tu9YxXRa9sA87EKlUD_r6I4aCLoPpkGsNkVBrIJ7DevH_gyDr7kuslHFlkb1FLIg/s1600/Show+Collage3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="131" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEzGbR5UnOM7cPKVgvJAFgTlWpC5BImaKE_DyEV768GpOL0FSL9qOwaa7opihQgqN45j7oddBmZI-tu9YxXRa9sA87EKlUD_r6I4aCLoPpkGsNkVBrIJ7DevH_gyDr7kuslHFlkb1FLIg/s400/Show+Collage3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
We also ate like Vikings while at the show but am too <strike>ashamed</strike> much of a lady to show you that carnage, which may or may not have included many hot donuts, an oversized baked potato and some kind of curly, deep-fried potato on a stick.<br />

Last week was my daughter's birthday and like most little girls, she fancies a balloon. Ages ago I had <a href="https://pinterest.com/pin/98305204335909259/" target="_blank">pinned</a> the idea of filling up a child's bedroom with helium balloons to wake up to on their birthday morning. It sounded pretty rad to me, so I did it and she loved it.<br />

They always have great ideas for quilts and find all sorts of nifty notions that they demo on you tube. Earlier in the year I fell in love with their "4 patch quilt + Xs and Os = Awesome Quilt" Tutorial which demonstrates a great way to make the Arkansas Crossroads quilt with a jelly roll. I wanted to make one but wasn't sure how big a quilt I would get out of one jelly roll and I didn't want to just start cutting and making it up as I went along - I'm too much of a Capricorn for that kind of fly by the seat of your pants malarkey! So, I cracked out the calculator, devised a quilt plan and wrote a pattern for it, and today I'd like to share it with you.<br />
<br />
You can download the pattern, which is fully supported by CAD diagrams, by clicking <a href="https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B5shkCRirc5SWmdubGlibDhiaXc" target="_blank">here</a>, or by clicking on the photo on the right hand side bar of my blog. I loved making this quilt. It goes together quickly and easily and it's one where you can just sit back and let the pretty fabric do all the work. I hope you like it.<br />

I had a great time with 14 wonderful ladies and Leah the shop owner. It was just the break that I needed after a long week in which everything seemed to go wrong and finished with my son throwing my iphone in the bath. <br />
<br />
It was so nice to be welcomed by Leah and her family in her lovely shop. Saturday night I took myself out for a hot date to the motel restaurant where I experienced the novelty of eating my meal without coaching anyone to have "just two more bites" and then I was in bed, asleep by 8.30pm. I think it was one of the best dates I've ever been on!<br />
<br />
On Sunday we had the workshop using Debby Maddy's Carpenter's Star pattern. My love affair with the Carpenter's star has been well documented and you can read more about it <a href="http://englandstreet.blogspot.com.au/2012_03_01_archive.html" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="http://englandstreet.blogspot.com.au/2011/03/what-happened-to-february.html" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://englandstreet.blogspot.com.au/2010/02/more-flowers-from-my-attic.html" target="_blank">here</a>. <br />

This group of ladies came ready to work and by the end of the day they had these beauties to show for their labours. One lady, Alison, even had her top completed - what a star! I know you're not supposed to have favourites - but I do, and it's Pam's, the third quilt in the second row.<br />

<br />
Unfortunately, I only remembered to take photos after several ladies had already laid their quilts out in rows and had packed them back up again. So sorry to those who don't have a photo.<br />
<br />
I am really looking forward to going back in March. This time I might even go wild and take myself out to the movies! <br />

I have so many projects that I should be doing and even more that should be finished off that I decided to start another one as a twisted method of work avoidance. Does anyone else do this?<br />
<br />
On the weekend I downloaded Camille Roskelley's "On a Whim:" pattern and Sunday night I got stuck in. I have decided to make it in reprodcution fabrics. This is mainly because I have a lot of them and I was impatient to start sewing right away. I still haven't decided what colour to do the corners of the blocks - one thing is for sure though - it won't be the beige colour of my carpet!<br />
<br />
Here are the first three blocks completed. I have decided to go with a scrappy background and so far I think I like it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Last year in the middle of moving house, Catherine, the lovely editor of Australian Homespun rang and asked me if she could have this quilt for her magazine's Christmas in July issue. Who was I to say no? No-one, that's who! So I wrote a pattern for it, had Mum quilt it on the super quick and sent it to Sydney. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTXa5nsijdsE_43z2WWqO12ErgaKkXrRW3DwYCFzUS_ORywNbZx5NXHCZaOcEzbD5X0lIa56P5PYYPtVImvBwmrgA2Ywce6R-5Lsf8oR1CG1ItUpx33k07dK6Xx9x0miivtZJttNPjhzw/s1600/IMG_8534.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTXa5nsijdsE_43z2WWqO12ErgaKkXrRW3DwYCFzUS_ORywNbZx5NXHCZaOcEzbD5X0lIa56P5PYYPtVImvBwmrgA2Ywce6R-5Lsf8oR1CG1ItUpx33k07dK6Xx9x0miivtZJttNPjhzw/s400/IMG_8534.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
Yesterday it was delivered back to me and today it had a little photo shoot in a park nearby. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's a close up of the quilting. I love me a feather and Mum quilted it for me using the "Simply Feathers" pantograph by Anne Bright. Simple and timeless. This photo also shows my favourite fabric in the quilt - it's a red Grunge fabric by Basic Grey, I think it's from their Figgy Pudding range. I have got about 40cm left which I am hoarding.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
My other favourite fabric in the quilt is this text fabric which was in a Charles Parsons basics range. I had about 80cm of it which I was also squirrelling away but I have squirrelled it so well that I can't find it! Well done me!<br />
<br />

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For their issue, Homespun gave my quilt the name "Snow Much Fun" which was
cute and suited their Christmassy theme - but that's just its stage
name. It's real name is "Lincoln", mainly because I used an Abe Lincoln
quote on the label. </div>

This quilt really started my love affair with red fabrics and now I have quite a few of them. I was playing with the X block which I had used in a recent quilt and I came up with the cushion below. I paired the reds from my stash with a beige linen and did some basic quarter inch straight line quilting. I have to say that I am a little bit in love. </div>

I came across this little linky party that I thought would be fun. It's the annual Pets on Quilts Show hosted by Lily Pad Quilting.<br />
<br />
Here is Lizzie doing what she does best......<br />
<br />

Must still be in holiday mode, although despite only being home for a week, our time in Port Elliot seems forever ago. Why is that always the way with holidays? They seem to exist in a bubble. You return home and it feels like you never left.<br />
<br />
Even though there have been crickets chirping on my blog I have been going full throttle in the craft room. This weekend I am teaching three quilts at a workshop and have been busily writing patterns and making the last quilt. It's not quilted yet so I have some rather glamourous shots of it hanging from my clothesline, and without further ado, here it is.<br />
<br />
I made this quilt from the Summer in the Park video by Missouri Star
Quilt Company and have written a wee pattern to accompany the video,
which I will share with you in a couple of weeks. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHlwEL0NFElGjo9vNqyFKL9U_vGtNqw1DFvd7UWZj1ok_MKW5HZlONn_ai6EgR-8rLYZn9bJX1Wcs1NbuxsntFRxndEC-pqSnFOcAyqqVt_hTTRft0mrLHmcrxgmXbLxlb1z5a26QU2x8/s1600/IMG_2904.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHlwEL0NFElGjo9vNqyFKL9U_vGtNqw1DFvd7UWZj1ok_MKW5HZlONn_ai6EgR-8rLYZn9bJX1Wcs1NbuxsntFRxndEC-pqSnFOcAyqqVt_hTTRft0mrLHmcrxgmXbLxlb1z5a26QU2x8/s400/IMG_2904.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
The fabric is Salt Air by Cosmo Cricket for Moda and it is just gorgeous. So fresh and summery. It's not a fabric I would usually go for but let me tell you a story (not a very interesting one, but stick with me - there's a giveaway at the end :-)).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9ASJIoO7XIyrFVwvg70z3m2q-yaRLy5LJmubqXhsndGf3Lp1tSFdRTI7y4nIVY0i5ctMKJL3OZWrAnS3_UY_PsbsAuzGqsZdj4uAd_6pWpoyDvR4gZ0vDboqjcytRHaMixb1IUT0t3LA/s1600/IMG_2905.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9ASJIoO7XIyrFVwvg70z3m2q-yaRLy5LJmubqXhsndGf3Lp1tSFdRTI7y4nIVY0i5ctMKJL3OZWrAnS3_UY_PsbsAuzGqsZdj4uAd_6pWpoyDvR4gZ0vDboqjcytRHaMixb1IUT0t3LA/s400/IMG_2905.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
I originally bought an Amy Butler Gypsy Caravan design roll because I REALLY liked a couple of the fabrics in the range, but when I unravelled the design roll and started to organise the fabrics in readiness to make this quilt I decided that, although they are gorgeous, the range just wasn't cohesive enough for the Summer in the Park quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7vQsEOrX5rqqWLLy9cBJTjMBtundxpSWbhGf04u-hrLPcClW70vEc5XfFt9dv7PQ_Nv0tXyyfabVBju_ijf5eyz1ZDXoRiWP06TinSttNHFS77wcwuUJveGo0XUS9RU5EjBFsSlBTqBY/s1600/IMG_2906.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7vQsEOrX5rqqWLLy9cBJTjMBtundxpSWbhGf04u-hrLPcClW70vEc5XfFt9dv7PQ_Nv0tXyyfabVBju_ijf5eyz1ZDXoRiWP06TinSttNHFS77wcwuUJveGo0XUS9RU5EjBFsSlBTqBY/s400/IMG_2906.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
And, as it turned out I needed 33 jelly roll strips to make this quilt and the Amy Butler design roll only has 30. I was determined to make this quilt while we were on holiday so I made a special trip to The Quilt Basket in Victor Harbor in search of a new jelly roll. When I got there, there were only about five to choose from so in desperation I grabbed the Salt Air jelly roll and I'm so glad I did because it is perfect for this quilt. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As it turns out, I didn't even take the cover off my sewing machine while I was away, I was too busy drinking tea on the verandah. So the mercy dash to Victor was completely unnecessary - but, if I hadn't gone, I would never have bought this fabulous fabric, and that would have been a shame!</div>

<br />
So, now for the giveaway. I have one, slightly used, Amy Butler Gypsy Caravan design roll to giveaway to a good home. There are only (27) 2 1/2" strips because I did use a few before I changed my mind. If you would like to enter the giveaway <b>just leave a comment telling me your favourite place for a holiday.</b> I will close the giveaway on Tuesday, 7th of August 2012, at 5pm Central Australian Time and draw a winner at random. <br />
